Use Layer preferences to define the default settings for layers.

Choose Edit > Preferences and then click Layer to change Layer preferences.

Use determines the default tag used to define the layer. SPAN and DIV create CSS layers, LAYER and ILAYER create Netscape layers. See also Dynamic HTML overview.

Visibility determines if layers are visible by default.

Width/Height sets the default width and height of layers created by Insert > Layer.

Background Color determines the default background color.

Background Image specifies a default background image.

Always Nest When Created Within Existing Layer makes layers drawn within the boundaries of an existing layer always nested within the enclosing layer. Turn this option off to draw layers on top of other layers without nesting. Hold down Control (Windows) or Command (Macintosh) to change this setting temporarily while drawing a layer.
